Business began in collaboration with Jon Sowter, an English educated furniture craftsman. Jonathan Charles Fine Furniture is now one of the premier designers and manufactures of classic reproduction and interpretation pieces.
Attention to detail is a hallmark of this beautifully crafted furniture line. Intricate inlay and marquetry, meticulous carving and finishing, and custom designed hardware, produced by their foundry, are all essential in making the finest furniture available today.
Jonathan Charles Fine Furniture has many different categories of furniture to choose from. Dining room, study, game room, and occasional furniture are just a few of the product group offerings.
Breakfronts and cabinets are offered in a variety of styles and sizes. Some Jonathan Charles pieces have eglomise accents, some with pediment tops to the hutches, oyster veneer, chinoiserie with brass and gilded detail, and corner cabinets with marquetry inlay.
Sideboards and buffets offer some of the most exciting pieces in the Jonathan Charles line. The selection includes crotch mahogany with a brass gallery and hand carved legs, a Demilune with hand cut inlays and a brass gallery, a welsh buffet with walnut finish. The collection is also comprised of a seaweed veneered sideboard and a Satinwood sideboard with a secret center drawer.
Dining tables come in such a large variety of sizes and styles such as round tables with marquetry tops, rectangular with planked top or a Hunt table with folding leaves. Jonathan Charles dining furniture also boasts a round table with a rotary action that gives an eight leaf extension and extends to 83” diameter. Double pedestal tables in antiqued crotch mahogany can extend to 132” often used as a board room table. A selection of breakfast tables and even a draw leaf, leaves that slide from ends with a bearing mechanism, are available.
Dining chairs that match the tables come in styles from Queen Anne, Chippendale, Ribbon Back, and Figure eight backs. Seating comes in various fabrics from cane to leather.
Jonathan Charles also offers a selection of desks, from double pedestal, writing desks and beautiful secretaries. There is a variety with exquisite hutch tops, some flat and some with bonnet tops.
Chests also come in all shapes and sizes from Jonathan Charles. The inlay marquetry on the fronts and tops are breathtaking and the hand done designs range from the traditional to the fanciful. Available are chests on legs demilune, art nouveau, parquet fronts, and oyster veneers.
The consoles offered are numerous and will fit any size required. Leather inlay, hand cut marquetry , brass rails and exotic woods are only some of the choices Jonathan Charles offers.
Occasional tables come in all the finishes that match the other pieces in the line. These as well show all the expertise of hand cut marquetry, eglomise and beautifully matched veneers.
Jonathan Charles also offers a selection of games tables that are delightful as well as functional. They have lovely mirrors and screen, shelves and etageres and accessories. In keeping with today’s lifestyle bar stools and tables are also available.
